New Lehrte Central Railway Station - Berlin

The photovoltaic project “Facade integration in the Lehrte Station” comprises the integration of a photovoltaic facility with a cell output of 189 kWp into the East-West glass roof (320m long) of the new main railway station in Berlin. The station is situated across from the Berlin Reichstag building.

Photovoltaic modules with a total active cell area of 1,146m² were installed within an area of 1,870m². Utilising the elongated glass sheath of the railway platform hall, the photovoltaic generator was integrated at a slant to the horizontal plane of 7-19°.

The photovoltaic generator consists of 780 glass modules which have been equipped with a total of 78,000 cells. The modules consist of two discs and an intervening layer of synthetic resin in which the cells are embedded. Because of the shape of the glass hall, no two modules have the same dimensions. Each module is unique.
